Helpful Information and Web Sites
| Here is a new website by the Federal Trade Commission
about consumer credit. They give great information about NEW laws
just now going into effect regarding your ability to get FREE credit
reports and more. Do you get those annoying "Pre-Approved" letters
for insurance and credit? Well, the FTC has lowered the boom on
those tactics and is regulating how they conduct their business, how they
entice you, and also, now, they must give you a way to make them stop
mailing to you! Visit the FTC's site:
CREDIT. This is a new website. |

Concerned about illegal immigration
in the USA....?
NEW ~ CHECKOUT HOW YOU
CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Most Americans support LEGAL IMMIGRATION in the United States.
However, in the last 10 years ILLEGAL immigration has been seriously and
dangerously changing our nation. It is a multifaceted and complex
situation. Despite the fact that many illegals are good and hard
working folks simply seeking a better life, even these are knowing
lawbreakers by choice. Couple that with the thousands who are gang
members and serious criminals also slipping across our border and the
problem becomes more complex. ADD to that the threat of terrorism
and the strong possibility that two of the 9-11 terrorists may have (could
have) crossed into the USA over the sieve of a border and it gets real
spooky. Other complexities include the huge weight added to our
already over taxed welfare system, medical systems, social security system
(yep, the politicians are wanting to social security benefits to
lawbreaking immigrants, free college educations to children of law
breaking immigrants and much more.
Many cities are "sanctuary"
towns, restricting their police force from so much as asking for an
identification of a suspected illegal. Now figure, cops can stop YOU
and ask for a insurance card and driver's license without probable cause
in many states but they CANNOT ask an obvious alien for proof of
citizenship??
We strongly support LEGAL immigration. And if
there is a need for more foreigners to come to America to be citizens and
work here, then expand the LEGAL immigration. That is simple.
However, we do need to know WHO is coming into our country and WHY.

GOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT YOUR
PHONE COMPANY?
Click here to go the FCC's page and get with it!
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html
I just went after AT&T Wireless. They automatically change your
contract length without saying a word anytime you change your rate plan.
I had a two year plan starting June 2003 and ending June 2005.
In April 2004, I asked my local rep to increase my monthly minutes.
It was a verbal with nothing signed. My local representative, I
found out later, also did not know any better. Months later, when
making inquiry about wireless internet service, I discovered that from the
date of the change (April 2004) they created a NEW contract for THREE
years from April 2004 (ending April 2007.) After about one hour of
fighting on the telephone with FIVE different ATT Wireless folks, I
finally won and got back to my original contract. Major pain. |
Important information about email
fraud. This includes getting emails claiming you must "register" with the
government to be on the internet (NOT true) and also, things like fake emails to
you concerning your accounts at eBay, PayPal, and your internet banking, credit
cards, etc.) Go to:
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2004/03/phishing.htm
and
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/phishregsalrt.htm
Do you get all sorts of annoying, disgusting emails? We get tons of
them! I have discovered that the Federal Trade
Commission is trying to help. They request that you FORWARD the email to
them (with full headers if possible) to this email address:
SPAM@UCE.GOV.
(UCE stands for Unsolicited
Commercial Email). Even though it takes time out of every day, I have been doing
and found it is very worthwhile. After
less than a week, I began to see a serious reduction in the number of junk &
porn-type emails in my inbox. It's a simple thing. If we do not
fight this flood of trash into our homes via our computers, we will have no one
to blame but ourselves for any consequences.

STOP TELEMARKETERS!
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/donotcall/index.html
**********************
National Do Not Call Registry
Amendments to the Telemarketing Sales Rule
The National Do Not Call Registry will soon be open for business, putting
consumers in charge of the telemarketing calls they get at home. The Federal
Government created the national registry to make it easier and more
efficient for you to stop getting telemarketing sales calls you don't want.
You will be able to register online or by calling toll-free from the number
you wish to register. Registration is free.
The Federal Trade Commission—the nation's consumer protection agency—and
the states will begin enforcing the National Do Not Call Registry on Oct. 1,
2003. That's when consumers who put their numbers on the registry by August
31, 2003 will notice a downturn in the number of telemarketing calls they
get. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop
most, but not all, telemarketing calls.
This site has information for you—whether you're a consumer interested in
signing up for the National Do Not Call Registry, or a telemarketer or
seller interested in learning more about your responsibilities related to
the Telemarketing Sales Rule. You also can
learn how your state do not call list relates to the National Do Not
Call Registry.
