Ochlockonee River Stone Age &
Primitive Arts Festival.
The Ochlockonee River State Park will host the Ochlockonee River Stone
Age & Primitive Arts Festival. This is the weekend prior to the Knap-in
held in Dade City, Florida making it easy to save gas by attending two
in events in a row.
The Ochlockonee River event is dedicated to stone age technologies and
primitive arts such as flint knapping, primitive ceramics, old and new
world bow and arrow construction, Atlatl construction, prehistoric
carving techniques and other stone age art forms. Our goal is to
showcase these ancient art forms and educate the public on the world’s
rich prehistory. If you plan to register and put merchandise up for
sale, there will be a small vending fee of $30.00. This fee will be
waived for registered demonstrators not selling. All displays must
be related to prehistory and park staff reserves the right to have any
display not related to the theme removed from public viewing. The sale
of knapping tools and materials is welcome. The sale of authentic
artifacts of antiquity will be prohibited. Only reproductions. The park
has four covered shelters that may be utilized by participants. This
space is limited so plan on bringing your own tables, chairs and display
tent. Registered vendors and demonstrators will be permitted to
camp at their display site for free. Our attendance for the first annual
event last year was 1,595 visitors, a good number for our remote
location. This year we anticipate an even greater attendance. If you
plan on staying in our campground, please make your reservation in
advance by calling ReserveAmerica at 1-800-326-3521. Regular camping
fees will apply. For motel accommodations there are three within a 20
minute drive of the park: Best Western in Medart, FL (850)-926-3737. The
Landing Motel and Restaurant in Panacea, FL (850)-984-4996. Wildwood
Inn also in Medart, FL (850)-926-4455. Ochlockonee River State Park is
located 4 miles southwest of Sopchoppy, FL off of US 319.

The Old Stone
Fort
The events are termed as Celebrations of Archaeoskills.
Archaeo meaning
primitive, we like the description for an aboriginal technology event.
It has always been an knap-in and has long included atlatl competition.
Many other activities and demonstration are included.
The Old Stone
Fort is a 2000 year old hilltop enclosure ceremonial site that has been
termed the most strikingly situated of Woodland sacred places. The park
features a campground enjoyed by participants. Manchester (within a
couple of miles) has over 1300 motel rooms. You may recognize this area
as the home of the most profitable festival in the world - Bonnaroo - on
the summer solstice week.
The 50 acre
enclosure called the Old Stone Fort is situated in the forks of the Duck
River with cliffs and waterfalls on both sides of the walled enclosure.
This remarkable setting includes a set of in-turned parallel walls that
are within a degree of the summer solstice rise point.

OSAGE KNAP-IN ~ The Great One!
|
What Are Knap-Ins? They are
gatherings of craftsmen who replicate stone tools used by
ancient civilizations (i.e.: stone arrow & atlatl points,
knives, and axes). These events are used to exchange
replication methods and ideas, teach the craft to new
Knappers, and they are social events for people who share
common interests in archeology and primitive crafts. The
Osage Knap-In is an event that has been ongoing for over two
decades and has grown from just five participating craftsmen
to hundreds from all over the country. It is one of the
first and largest events of this kind in the USA and has a
reputation as one of the best. The best Knappers in the
country regularly attend this event. |

|

JOMO Monthly Knap-In
Pineville, Missouri
on Little Sugar Creek
We welcome you to our occasional, sorta monthly knapping gatherings.
ANYONE is welcome to come and participate or observe. Beginners and
wannabe's are especially welcome and Jim Spears is normally here to help
you get a good a start.
Our core group is Christian and strives to behave as such so please do
not bring any drugs or alcohol. However, please DO bring food for the
picnic table! Also, do bring a chair and safety glasses are a very good
idea. If you are into bows and atlatls, bring 'em! We love to shoot and
throw. Many of the guys are excellent bow builders and enjoy talking
shop with you.
This is not a commercial knap-in so no one sets up to sell. There's no
problem with buying a rock from a buddy but we just do not want selling
to be the focus here.
